New York commercial interior design: elevate your brand

New York neighbors our flagship design office and where we got our start. Our team proudly serves New York and surrounding areas with detailed attention to every project. New York has many well-known architectural landmarks that inspire us to challenge the status quo with fearless designs.
Whether it's custom architectural design services for your upscale restaurant or a workspace with ample design, even without ample space, we have the resources to shape your environment no matter the size.
We have vast experience in commercial projects throughout New York. Our goal is to craft memorable and functional spaces by truly listening to your needs. We stay hyper-focused on the details — because that’s what matters.
We host a 90-minute onboarding session, either in person at your site or virtually via the HH Designers app if needed. This session allows our team to deeply understand the physical space, operational flow, and any logistical constraints (e.g., DOB permits, building access, noise ordinances) that may impact the design process.
You’ll meet directly with our Executive Vision Director, who leads our creative process and asks the right questions to uncover the deeper “why” behind your project. Whether you're aiming to create a calming pediatric waiting room or an elevated co-working space, this session anchors our direction.
We craft a custom design brief that outlines your timeline, budget, visual goals, and functional needs in detail. You’ll have a clear roadmap for what’s ahead—no surprises, just full alignment from day one.
We combine deep market research with spatial planning to deliver schematic designs that speak to your audience—and stand out in New York’s crowded design landscape.
We begin with neighborhood and market research, evaluating local competitors, design expectations in your industry, and what your clientele values in a physical environment. Whether your audience expects sleek minimalism in SoHo or traditional elegance on the Upper West Side, we translate those insights into spatial decisions.
We create a functional layout and space plan that prioritizes both aesthetics and operational efficiency. This includes detailed considerations for staff movement, public access, ADA compliance, mechanical zones, and more—essential for working within the complexity of New York building codes.
You’ll receive a schematic design package featuring floor plans, material palettes, proposed finishes, and design language that ties together your brand and goals. We’ll walk you through each recommendation and discuss how every decision ladders up to business results.
We also conduct a financial alignment check, ensuring the selected elements match your budget expectations while still delivering the impact you need. Our goal is to stretch your dollars without compromising your vision.
We produce photo-realistic 3D renderings that show your actual future space—capturing texture, lighting, and depth across key angles. From an executive conference room in Midtown to a multi-unit residential lobby in Bushwick, we bring your design to life before a single wall moves.
Our team specifies FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) that are both beautiful and built to handle the realities of NYC usage and traffic. We prioritize pieces that balance form, function, and durability, while also considering delivery timelines, sourcing restrictions, and union labor limitations when relevant.
Whenever possible, we provide physical samples of finishes and materials—so you can touch the texture of your seating fabric or see the grain of your flooring in natural light. This tactile element makes sure your space doesn’t just look good in theory—it feels right in practice.
All materials and products are pre-specified in advance using trusted national and contract-grade vendors. That means fewer procurement surprises, faster order processing, and fewer delays—critical in a city where timing is everything.
You’ll receive a beautifully printed Spec Book, along with digital CAD files and PDFs ready to distribute to your architect, contractor, or MEP consultant. Every page is clean, legible, and designed to eliminate ambiguity—down to the lighting elevation height and door hardware placement.
Inside your Spec Book you’ll find comprehensive ID drawings, electrical layouts, millwork details, ceiling and lighting plans, annotated elevations, finish schedules, and product specs. It’s a full build-out guide engineered for seamless handoff and execution, even across large teams.
Our team remains available throughout the build phase to answer contractor questions, clarify design intent, or recommend substitutions if needed. Whether your site is dealing with delivery delays or union coordination, we stay in the loop to ensure the final result matches your vision.

Frequently asked
questions.
How does HH Designers navigate the complexity of New York City building codes and permits?
We’ve worked extensively in all five boroughs and are deeply familiar with NYC DOB regulations, zoning restrictions, and permitting timelines. Our designs are created with code compliance in mind from day one—whether that’s FDNY clearances, ADA access, or special inspections—so there are no surprises down the road.
Do you offer on-site walkthroughs in New York before the design process starts?
Yes. For NYC-based clients, we strongly prefer to conduct on-site walkthroughs during the discovery phase. Seeing the space in person helps us account for elevator access, delivery restrictions, structural quirks, and neighborhood-specific challenges like landmark status or noise ordinances.
What types of NYC businesses has HH Designers worked with in the past?
We’ve partnered with healthcare clinics in the Bronx, Chabad religious facilities, luxury residential developers, and nonprofit institutions in Manhattan. Our portfolio reflects the diversity of New York—spanning offices, retail, wellness, hospitality, education, and religious spaces.
Can you work with union contractors or city-approved GCs?
Absolutely. Many of our New York clients use union labor, and we’re well-versed in coordinating with union GCs, tradespeople, and city-approved contractors. Our Spec Books are built for precise execution and seamless handoffs, no matter how large or regulated the build.
How do you design spaces that stand out in such a competitive city?
In New York, good design isn’t optional—it’s expected. We take the time to understand your neighborhood, audience, and competitors so your space doesn’t just look great, it strategically differentiates you. Whether it’s a bold visual identity in a crowded retail district or a calming patient experience in a busy medical setting, we design for maximum impact.
What makes HH Designers different from other NYC commercial interior firms?
Unlike firms that only focus on aesthetics, we bring a full-package, ROI-driven approach. We understand how to balance beautiful design with operational flow, city regulations, and the fast-moving nature of New York business. Our process is designed to be as efficient and high-performing as the city itself.
Does HH Designers work in New York City?
Yes. HH Designers is headquartered in Toms River, New Jersey, and works with clients in New York City and nationwide. The studio has delivered more than 96 projects across seven sectors and travels for commissions, including international work.
What services does HH Designers provide?
Interior design, space planning, branding, and consulting, carried from first sketch through final install. That includes FF&E specification and procurement, photoreal visualization, and site presence through installation.
How does a project start?
It starts with a conversation. Send the studio a note through the contact page or WhatsApp, and a real person replies within one business day. The first phase, Envision, defines goals, constraints, and budget before anything gets drawn.
Will I see the design before it is built?
Yes. HH Designers pairs designers with software experts so every major decision is approved from photoreal renderings before construction. What you approve is what gets installed.
Do you handle furniture and procurement?
Yes. FF&E specification, ordering, and installation are part of the engagement, so one team is accountable from drawings through the finished space.
